Richard's story so far:
Richard studied MDes Industrial Product Design at Coventry University, before making his first venture into Specialist Vehicle products with Pocklington Coachworks Ltd., a builder of bespoke race and luxury hospitality trailers. Whilst there he served some of the most prestigious and quality-demanding customers in the SV market – Jaguar Racing, McLaren and Williams to name a few – aiding in the design and management of vehicle builds, with product values ranging from around £200k to £1.5m.
Soon after, he entered into the ambulance and emergency response vehicle industry with UVModular, where he worked as a design and new product development engineer for four-and-a-half years. Whilst there Richard gained experience of many different areas of ambulance design and production: tendering on multi-million pound ambulance contracts, bespoke specification writing, layout and piece-part design, and generation of material bills. Later he went on to co-ordinate the flow of new product development projects within the company, and was the lead project engineer for van conversions, sales of which increased from around £200k per annum to circa £6.7m over the course of his time there.
Richard moved to become part of the setup of response-sv in July ’08. “I am very proud to be part of a team of people with such a great knowledge of and passion for special purpose vehicles. Having been trained in the ideals of industrial product design, I am delighted to see them finally applied to S.P. Vehicle Products at response-sv. Here we are implementing genuine design methods and principles and embracing appropriate modern technologies to transform the way ambulances are produced in the UK.”
